Nurgul Dzhanaeva
Nurgul Dzhanaeva is President of the Forum of Women’s NGOs of Kyrgyzstan, and has worked on SDG related issues at the local, national, regional and global levels. From 2016-2019, she was instrumental in initiating the campaign “From Global to Local” which sought to integrate SDG Goal 5 – to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls – into Kyrgyzstan’s local sustainable development strategies and plans.
Nurgul is also UN CSW/NGO Global Trainer, training CSO activities in New York at CSW and HLPF on Women’s rights, UN mechanisms and SDGs. Back home, she does the same and trains local authorities and local women’s groups on SDGs, and initiated a multi-stakeholder partnership on SDG Goal 5.
Adding to her long list of involvements, Nurgul is a member of the UN Expert Group Meeting on Indicator 5.c.1 (Proportion of countries with systems to track and make public allocations for gender equality and women’s empowerment), a member of the Global Task Team on CSO Enabling Environment and Development Effectiveness, Chair of CPDE WG on CSO Enabling Environment, and is a regular contributor on SDG, women’s rights and gender equality literatures.
She obtained her PhD in Philosophy from the Leningrad State University.
