Dr. Hongey Chen is Director of the National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction (NCDR) and has held the position since 2014. Under his leadership, the NCDR has made strides in better application of science and technology in disaster risk reduction and emergency preparedness. He is responsible for enhancing efficiency of typhoon emergency operations in Taiwan by introducing scientific decision support for the NCDR. His professional expertise in geohazard, engineering geology and slope stability has made him a great contributor to improving environment sustainability and a good international reputation. An accomplished scholar, Dr. Chen’s research papers are widely published in academic journals including Nature, Science, Geology, Geomorphology, Engineering Geology, and the Journal of Asian Earth Sciences among others. He was a visiting scholar to the University of Cambridge, UK and Columbia University, USA in 2002 and 2011 respectively. He has been teaching at the National Taiwan University since 1988.

Dr. Chen obtained his PhD in Geological Sciences from the University College London, UK in 1987.
