Chjeng-Lun Shieh
Prof. Chjeng-Lun Shieh is Director of the Disaster Prevention Research Center at the National Cheng Kung University. He is also a professor of hydraulic and ocean engineering at the same university. His academic works number in the hundreds and had been published in international journals and conference proceedings, and is a regular invited speaker/ keynote lecturer at many international conferences and symposiums.
Dr. Shieh has been working on disaster prevention research for more than 20 years. His fields of expertise include mechanics of debris flow, numerical analysis on silting and de-silting of reservoirs, sedimentation on estuarine deltas, basin-scale management for sediment hazards, and warning and evacuation systems for disasters.
Aside from his directorship at NCKU’s Disaster Prevention Education Center, Dr. Shieh is a member of the Central Disaster Prevention and Response Council and the Disaster Prevention Councils of Tainan and Kaohsiung. He is also Emeritus Director-General of the Taiwan Disaster Prevention Society.
Dr. Shieh obtained his PhD in Civil Engineering from Kyoto University, and both his BS and MSc degrees in Hydraulic and Ocean Engineering from the National Cheng Kung University.
